Dry needling, also known as trigger point dry needling or intramuscular stimulation, is a minimally invasive technique in which thin needles are inserted into or near myofascial trigger points to treat pain and movement problems. The needles stimulate the muscles, causing them to contract or twitch, which can help relieve pain and improve movement. Dry needling can also reduce muscle tension, increase circulation and reduce pain. Patients often report immediate relief after treatment, which can last anywhere from 10 seconds to 20 minute.
